Hello and welcome to ThoughtfulBits!

I’ve started a weekly blog that aims to bring you concise and insightful thoughts on technology and business. My goal is to provide something interesting and thought-provoking for you, my readers, rather than just churning out fast and sensationalist content for the sake of getting views. There are already plenty of places on the Internet to get that kind of content!

First a bit about myself: my name is Alex Gounares, and I am currently the CEO of Polyverse Corporation, a cybersecurity firm. Prior to my current role, I served as Technology Advisor to Bill Gates at Microsoft, as well as CTO for both AOL and Microsoft Online Services (at separate times of course!). I have been deeply involved in over $7 billion dollars of mergers and acquisitions (both buying and selling), and I am an inventor on over 200 patents. Despite my CEO role, I still code regularly.

On a personal front, I live in the Pacific Northwest and am an avid cyclist, skier, and boater. Be on the lookout for references to obscure jokes from Monty Python and Douglas Adams!

In a world where there is so much AI-produced content available, it can be challenging to find something truly thoughtful and original. My own inbox was overflowing with such emails, and I would regularly be asked by friends and colleagues “what’s really going on?”. That's where this newsletters comes in. I’ll strive to bring you fresh perspectives and ideas that will make you think, even if you don't necessarily agree with everything I say.
